Faster 350 kW DC chargers now available at Porsche centres in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The official distributor of Porsche cars in Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto Performance, has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable transportation in the country.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Where are upgraded 350 kW DC chargers for Porsche Taycan available?

The upgraded direct current (DC) chargers for Porsche Taycan are currently available at two outlets - Porsche Centre Ara Damansara and Porsche Centre Penang.
  • How much time does it take to charge the Porsche Taycan?

The upgraded charger can charge the Porsche Taycan from 5-80% in less than 23 minutes at its maximum charging rate.
  • The company has upgraded direct current (DC) chargers at its two outlets - Porsche Centre Ara Damansara and Porsche Centre Penang. It is also planned to upgrade the other two outlets - Porsche Centre Sungai Besi and Porsche Centre Johor Bahru by next month.

The move aims to enhance the charging infrastructure and make it more convenient for Porsche customers to charge their EVs.

The upgraded charging facilities feature two 175 kW DC chargers, together providing up to 350 kW charging speeds. However, the output remains 175 kW when used individually. The enhanced charging capabilities can charge the Porsche Taycan from 5-80% in less than 23 minutes at its maximum charging rate. According to the automaker, it is for the first time that such sort of fast charging is available within a dealership facility.

It should be noted that these upgraded Porsche DC chargers are exclusively available for Taycan EV customers. They can also enjoy gourmet refreshments at the lounge of the Porsche Centre Ara Damansara while waiting for their EV to be charged.

Porsche also has a collaboration with Shell that offers access of the Shell Recharge charging network to EV owners. It includes 180 kW high-performance chargers at different locations in Shell stations.

Besides enhancing the charging experience, the automaker has also installed a new solar panel carport at Porsche Centre Penang. The new port captures solar energy with the help of a canopy covering the open-air parking area. The said canopy comprises a total of 151 panels capable of delivering up to 81.51 kWp of output.

This move will not help the automaker save up to 30% of its electricity consumption but also support the company’s vision of reducing carbon footprints.

“We are committed to making our business more environmentally conscious. With innovative and forward-looking initiatives like our new solar carport concept at Porsche Centre Penang, we are finding better ways to source renewable energy, and preparing our business better for increased energy demands we will face in the years to come,” said SDAP Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Hunter.
