First BYD showroom opening this month; 39 more on the way

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD made a grand entry into the Malaysian market with the big launch of the Atto 3 EV. At the event, the Chinese automaker announced several big plans for the local market. Some of them are the announcement of its upcoming cars - the Seal and the Dolphin, and dealership network plans.

While we have discussed the upcoming BYD Seal and BYD Dolphin arrival in detail, it’s time now to shed light on the brand’s dealership network plans.

Andrew Basham, Sime Darby Motors’ Managing Director at the launch event revealed the brand’s showroom opening trail. Starting December 2022 alone, BYD will open its first showroom at TREC KL. The same is expected to go online by the mid of this month.

The automaker aims to open 20 more by the end of 2023 with most of its showroom being 3S Centres (offering sales, service, and spare parts).

Basham in his speech revealed, “Sime Darby Motors will have their first BYD experience center here in Malaysia at TREC in KL starting in the middle of this month, followed by three more in Ara Damansara, Penang, and Johor.”

He added, “With the entry of dealer partners, we expect the number of BYD experience centers to grow to 20 by the end of 2023, and double that by the end of 2024.”

With its rapid expansion plans, the company will contribute about 600 new job opportunities in the country.

Overall, by the end of 2023, BYD Malaysia's lineup will include three cars - Atto 3, Dolphin, and Seal. Thus giving a pump to the market's EV sector.
