Ford recalls Ranger, F-150 and Expedition vehicles

KUALA LUMPUR: The American automaker, Ford has recently issued a recall notice of 68,000 vehicles. The affected models include 2020 Ford Ranger, 2020 F-150 equipped with 10-speed automatic transmission, and 2020 Expedition paired with the police package and 10-speed automatic transmission. However, the vehicles featuring the rotary-dial gear shifter are not included in the notice.

The issue which triggered the recall is a clip that meant to keep the gearshift cable and transmission connected with each other, may not be fitted appropriately. As a result, the partially seated clip can put the transmission in a gear state which is different from the driver's intended gearshift position. 

It may lead to a situation where the driver puts the shifter in park mode, while the transmission remains in drive. Even if the vehicle is parked on a sloppy road, the car can move unintentionally and increase the chances of an accident or crash. However, no case of accident or injury related to this condition is reported as of now.

The recall affects a total of 55,158 vehicles in the US, 12,090 in Canada and 681 in Mexico. It includes:

• 2020 Ford Ranger manufactured between February 28 to March 18, 2020, at Michigan Assembly Plant
• 2020 Ford F-150 made between February 18 to March 19, 2020, at Dearborn Truck Plant and between February 21 to March 19, 2020, at Kansas City Assembly Plant
• 2020 Ford Expedition built between March 3 to 19, 2020, at Kentucky Truck Plant

The owners of affected vehicles can approach any nearest Ford dealership where the shift cable locking clip will be inspected and properly seated if required.
