Hyundai Ioniq 5 N breaks cover at Goodwood Festival of Speed

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai has introduced its N brand’s first high-performance, all-electric model, the Ioniq 5 N, at the ongoing Goodwood Festival of Speed in England. The performance EV comes with sportier styling, upgraded mechanicals, and many exclusive bits, offering a thrilling driving experience to high-performance enthusiasts.

    The EV is equipped with two electric motors churning out a maximum power of 600 hp and a peak torque of 740 Nm; it can go up to 641 hp and 770 Nm with the help of the N Grin Boost mode, which lasts for 10 seconds. It enables the EV to run from zero to 100 kmph in mere 3.4 seconds (3.5 seconds without Boost mode) before attaining a top speed of 260 kmph.

    The motors of the all-new Hyundai Ioniq 5 N are paired with an 84kWh battery pack. Although the exact range provided by this battery pack is yet to be disclosed, Hyundai asserts that it can be charged from 10-80% in just 18 minutes using a 350kW DC fast charger.

    To optimise the battery performance, the automaker has also configured an N Battery Pre-conditioning, which allows the driver to choose between a Drag or Track mode. The N Race features two additional modes - Endurance and Sprint.

    Other mechanical upgrades include - 

    • A reinforced chassis with 42 additional welding points 
    • Reinforced motor and battery mounts for better rigidity in corners
    • A completely revised suspension setup
    • New aero bits
    • Updated regenerative braking system
    • World Rally Championship-inspired integrated drive axles at both ends
    • Brakes made with new lightweight material; the setup comprises a four-piston, 400mm disc at the front and a one-piston, 360mm disc at the rear

    Speaking about the software-enhanced driving fun bits, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N gets N Pedal, N Drift Optimizer, N e-shift, and N Active Sound + systems.

    What makes the performance EV look different from the standard model are - active air flaps, lower bumper lip spoiler, black trim on bumper contrasted with N-exclusive Luminous Orange tone, a mesh air curtain, rear diffuser, and 21-inch forged aluminium wheels shod with Pirelli P-Zero tyres.

    The interior gets an N-specific steering wheel kitted with N buttons, a redesigned central console, and reinforced seat bolsters on the bucket seats.

    Hyundai is expected to launch the all-new Ioniq 5 N performance EV by the end of this year.
