Hyundai Ioniq to be Launched in Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid and Fully-Electric Versions

Kuala Lumpur: Looks like every automaker in the world is in a queue to launch their hybrid and fully electric vehicles, and the latest to join is the South Korean automaker Hyundai Ioniq. The company is set to launch its first all-electric vehicle in January 2016 in Korea. The name of this Hyundai Hybrid comes from a combination of two words “ion” and “unique”. Earlier, the concept version of this car was also displayed at the 2013 Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show. The announcement of the launch was also accompanied by a single teaser image of the car. This image gives a glimpse of the silhouette along with LED positioning headlamps at the front and LED taillights at the rear end.

Hyundai claims it to be the first car to provide an electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain, all in one body type. The fully electric (EV) version is powered by an efficient lithium-ion battery. Further, the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version needs to be charged with electricity which would hence combine its battery power with fuel-efficient energy. Lastly, the hybrid ( HEV) version uses the motion of the car along with gasoline engine to charge its battery.

Further, this Hyundai-Hybrid features a new platform that is “optimised to deliver responsive handling while remaining efficient in each of its three powertrain configurations”. Moreover, Hyundai also claims that Ioniq “combines class-leading fuel efficiency with a fun, responsive drive and attractive design, a unique mix not yet achieved by a hybrid vehicle.” Talking about the interior, some spy shots were revealed earlier when it was caught testing. The pictures revealed a not-so-futuristic look which was similar to Sonata, but the car might impress the customers with its performance.
