Hyundai Tucson Scores Five-Star Euro NCAP Rating While Mazda MX-5 Gets a Four

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson managed to get a five-star Euro NCAP rating thanks to Hyundai's latest active technology that enhances the car's impressive safety results. While Euro NCAP took into account only the Lane Keeping Assist System and the Speed Limit Information, but all-new Tucson is equipped with an array of other safety features too. These features include autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detector, rear-cross traffic alert and vehicle stability management along with an active hood system which enhances the pedestrian safety rating. It has also got a new body shell structure that features 30% more advanced high strength steel and thus increases the car's rigidity to offer great impact resistance.

This Korean automaker's third-generation compact SUV scores an 86% rating in the case of adult occupants safety and 85% in the case of child occupants safety. Elsewhere, it scored a 71% rating in both pedestrian safety and 'Safety Assist' category. In Malaysia, this third-generation Tucson is expected to be launched at the end of 2015.

Now let's move on to the latest version of the Japanese roadster which is in its fourth-generation, the 2016 Mazda MX-5. This car has scored four stars out of a maximum five by combining good all-round performance in crash tests. It was also praised for its exceptional pedestrian protection thanks to the deployable bonnet fitted as standard for which it scored 93%. Overall, its safety features include four airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), High Beam Control (HBC) and Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS). However, the absence of AEB disappointed NCAP, as it was available in similarly-priced cars of other segments.
