Malaysia Autoshow 2019: Cars we expect to see
Malaysia Autoshow 2019 will open its gates tomorrow, i.e., on 11th April. This four-day auto event will be staged at the country's largest showground, the Malaysia Argo Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). The 2019 edition of the show will witness the showcasing of latest vehicles, all highlighting the auto-related advances in the field of safety, comfort, and technology. This year’s theme is ‘Mobility for All’ and therefore we are expecting to see a wide array of cars decorating the venue's different halls.
As per the Malaysia Autoshow 2nd press conference, held on 4th April in Cyberjaya, this edition will see the participation of 170 exhibitors and 32 OEMs. Also, the expected footfall is of 350,000 people. More than 100 cars from different OEMs are expected to be displayed with the Hall A housing latest vehicles including the Energy Efficient Models. This makes us thinking as to which all cars will be showcased at the Malaysian Auto Show 2019. Let’s get started with the confirmed, while slowly moving to the less probable ones -
Mazda CX-8
Starting with Mazda’s latest SUV, the CX-8. Once launched (expected to happen later this year) it will be slotted between the CX-5 and CX-9. The company has confirmed that the Malaysian spec CX-8 will be showcased at the upcoming auto event. It will be made available in four variants. The range-topping trim is expected to house a diesel-powered mill, while the rest will run on a gasoline engine. What we know for sure are the CX-8 engine specifications. While the diesel option will feature a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel engine making 188 hp and 450 Nm, the petrol options will receive a 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G naturally-aspirated mill churning 192 hp and 257 Nm.
BMW i3
Next car confirmed for the show is from the German automaker, BMW. Sitting at the top of the Energy Efficient Models lineup at the show would most probably be the BMW i3. Here in Malaysia, we are expecting to receive the standard model that is powered by an AC motor coupled to a 42 kWh high-voltage battery. Together they produce 170 hp of power; also the energy will be sent to the rear wheels. Though electric, when it comes to performance, this car could hit the 97 kmph mark in 7.2 seconds. Also, it is expected to be loaded with some best-in-class safety, comfort, and convenience features.
Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan
It was only on 9th April that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia line-up welcomed a brand-new sedan, the V177 A-Class. We already had the A-Class hatch, and now the sedan version comes along with a few added features and of course a bigger boot. The new Mercedes sedan is available in two variants - A 200 Progressive Line (for RM 229,888) and A 250 (for 267,888). The list of standard features includes a large 12.3-inch color-panel with Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system, keyless entry, cruise control, and power adjustable seats.
Proton Iriz 2019
It’s been a while since Proton is teasing us with the images/videos of the all-new Iriz. However, the price and launch date are the two things the company is tight-lipped about. The 2019 Iriz, when launched, will be available in five variants - Standard 1.3L MT, Standard 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.6L CVT, and Premium 1.6L CVT. From the officially released images, the new Iriz seems to hold close similarity with the Proton X70. The car would be offered in five color choices - Ruby Red, Snow White, Armour Silver, Ocean Blue, and Jet Grey. Want to know about its variant details, click here.
Proton Persona 2019
Along with the Proton Iriz, the Malaysia-bound company is also expected to unveil the Persona sedan facelift at the upcoming auto show. Though, powered by the same old 107 PS 1.6-litre VVT mill, this new model is said to be inspired by the company’s latest SUV, the X70. Some of its highlighting set of features include - new LED daytime running lights, ‘Infinite Weave’ grille, LED headlamps with daytime running lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, and more. The cabin is also updated and now features a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, cleaner instrument cluster with color display, and new gear knob.
Toyota Yaris
Toyota Yaris, a.k.a., the hatchback variant of Vios is scheduled to soon land on the Malaysian grounds. And what better place than the biggest auto show of the country, however, nothing is confirmed yet. Also, a few days back the all-new Yaris was unveiled at Toyota Malaysia’s website along with the feature, safety, and color options details.
Nissan X-Trail 2019
It was only in March, when Nissan Malaysia official distributor, Edaran Tan Chong Malaysia (ETCM) announced that the X-Trail facelift would be launched in April. This makes us wonder that the company might launch this 7-seater SUV at the upcoming auto show itself. The car would be available in four trims one of which would be hybrid.
Hyundai Santa Fe 2019
It was at the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2018 when Hyundai Malaysia unveiled the 4-gen Santa Fe. Also, back then the company even started accepting orders for the SUV. Now, we expect Hyundai to officially launch the Santa Fe at the Malaysia Autoshow 2019 and also commence the delivers soon after.
These are all the cars we expect to arrive at the Malaysian Autoshow 2019. Do tell us which car you think could be added to the list.
