Mercedes-Benz launches V177 A-Class Sedan in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) has finally launched the V177 A-Class Sedan in two variants, namely A200 and A250. Prior to this, the vehicle was teased by the company with a short video posted on MBM’s official social media handle.

Alongside the launch, the company has also revealed the pricing details for both the variants. The A 200 Progressive Line carries a retail price of RM 229,888 (RM 2,000 more than the A200 hatch), while the A 250 retails for RM 267,888 (an increment of RM 4,000 over the equivalent hatch). These figures are without on-road insurance and pack a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

The vehicle comes with increased height over its hatchback version, while wheelbase remains the same. The most differentiating feature is the boot size, which now has a capacity of 420-litre, compared to the 370-litre of the W177 A-Class Hatchback.

Both variants equip tapered LED High-Performance headlights on the front fiasco along with a trapezoidal grille. At the back, it gets arrow-shaped LED taillights, followed by the rear bumper at the bottom that also integrates the dual exhaust outlets.

Other standard features include keyless entry, power-adjustable seats, cruise control, and a large 12.3-inch color-panel that combines with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) infotainment system. This is an AI backed system, which is capable of learning user habits and can be operated via ‘Hey Mercedes!’ voice command. Furthermore, the A 200 receives Artico faux leather upholstery, while the A 250 gets heated sports seats.

Under the hood, the A 200 is armed with an M282 1.33-litre four-cylinder turbo engine that delivers a maximum power of 163 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 250 Nm within 1,620 rpm and 4,000 rpm. On the other hand, the A 250 equips M260 2.0-litre mill, churning out a maximum power of 224 hp at 5,500 rpm and 350 Nm within 1,800 rpm and 4,000 rpm.

With the Malaysia Autoshow 2019 around the corner, we can only expect to see the sedan at the Mercedes-Benz staging area.
