Malaysia’s first flying vehicle EHang 216 set to fly

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s first flying car prototype named EHang 216 has been identified, and it is not the one developed by the local company called Aerodyne Group. According to the news reports, it has been revealed that this passenger drone is developed by a Chinese company named Beijing Yi-Hang Creation Science & Technology Co. Moreover, EHang 216 is set to take off on November 21 and is locally known as the Super Dron.

Rising information from Berita Harian reports states that it is a joint venture between two Chinese companies named Strong Rich Holdings and EHang Intelligent Equipment (Guangzhou) and local company EastCap. The strategic joint venture will manage the operation, marketing, and maintenance of the passenger drone in the nation. In addition to that, it was also reported that the pilot would be accompanied by Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof, entrepreneur development minister, when the Super Dron takes its first flight on Thursday in Subang.

Talking about the EHang 216, it is a passenger drone that comes equipped with eight arms, and each of them is mounted with two electric motors that are further connected to the propellers. In total, 16 rotors assist the drone in taking flight, and the payload capacity is rated at 260 kg. It weighs 360 kg and flaunts an aero-cab cabin, which is capable of housing two passengers.

Moving to the performance figures, the internet reveals that it is capable of achieving a cruise speed of 130 km/h and features a flight range of nearly 35 km. The company has declared that this drone will not only act as public transportation but will also be used as an emergency aid vehicle and border monitoring vehicle by authorities. EastCap also aims to build a manufacturing plant in Malaysia, which will be capable of manufacturing 10,000 units a year.
