Mercedes-Benz CLA 35, CLA 45 spotted testing

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz, is all set to make the global debut of its new CLA (codename-C118) in January 2019. A set of new spy shots reveals that the series will include two high-performing AMG models, CLA 35 and CLA 45. These two CLAs will join the company’s new A-class in the coming year.

Reportedly, the models will have a round, shallower roofline on the rear-side. The picture shows that the CLA 45 will get the Panamericana grille and four circular exhausts at the rear, while the CLA 35 will get a single-slat grille and two exhausts.

Based on what has come up with the images, more changes have been noticed in the design of bumpers and lights. Compared to the CLA 35, more air intake on the frontal bumper and extra fins on the rear diffuser can be spotted in the CLA 45.

As there is no info available on the specifications, apparently the CLA 35 will get the same four-cylinder M260 2.0-litre petrol engine as the A35. It is a twin-scroll turbocharger that produces 306 hp of power and 400 Nm of torque, mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. It will perform with the AMG Performance 4Matic all-wheel-drive system to boost power to the wheels.

For the CLA 45, we will have to wait for the Mercedes-AMG official announcement to know what it will feature beneath its bonnet. Rumour has it that it gets a turbo engine with a capacity of 2.0-litre that churns out 395 hp, with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. A recently added Christmas-themed video indicates that the all-wheel-drive system in the A45 and CLA 45 can operate completely at rear-wheel drive in the drift mode.
