Mercedes reveals full specs of A-Class sedan

KUALA LUMPUR: The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback was launched just a few months back and we are in for another treat here. The German manufacturer has now revealed the complete specs and the variants to be offered for the upcoming sedan version of the car.

Aesthetically, the new Mercedes A-Class sedan holds the same front fascia as the hatchback counterpart. However, the rear, as expected, has a completely new story. Apart from just the big boot, the sedan has developed a lip-spoiler too. The slight redesign has also resulted in better aerodynamics than any other car in the respective segment.

At the time of launching the A-Class hatchback, Mercedes had mentioned only about two engine trims for the upcoming sedan. However, now there are three more petrol engines joining the lineup. The two initial variants were A180d (1.5-litre diesel) and A200 (1.3-litre petrol). The diesel engine can make a maximum power of 116 PS and a peak torque of 260 Nm. On the other hand, the turbocharged petrol can make 163 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque.

The three new trims to join the lineup are the base A220 4Matic, A250 mid-spec unit and the A250 with 4Matic. It is to be seen that all of these three engines are more powerful than the ones announced previously. The A220 makes 190 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque while the A250 is capable of churning out 224 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. The A250 will be available in both 2WD as well as AWD.

This new Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will get the company’s extra kit from the AMG Line and Night Package, just like any other model from the company’s shed. Both 16-inch, as well as 17-inch alloy wheel options,  would be available at the time of launch.

The production of this new sedan will begin in 2019 at the company’s facility in Germany. It will be slotted below the Mercedes CLA and will be the new entry-level sedan.
