MG S5 EV launched in Malaysia – RWD EV SUV from RM115k, up to 430 km range

KUALA LUMPUR: MG Motor Malaysia has officially launched the MG S5 EV, marking its entry into Malaysia’s B-segment electric SUV space with a bold proposition: rear-wheel drive dynamics, generous tech, and competitive pricing.

Three variants are now available — Com, Com Long Range and Lux Long Range — prices for the MG S5 are as follows: 

MG S5 Com - RM115,900

MG S5 Com Long Range - RM125,900

MG S5 Lux Long Range - RM135,900 

In conjunction with its launch and MG’s 1st anniversary celebration in Malaysia, MG Motor Malaysia is extending an exclusive early access offer to the first 500 buyers.

Customers will enjoy RM6,000 in savings bringing the starting price to just RM109,900. To further enhance convenience, each eligible customer will also receive a complimentary 7kW AC Wallbox charger for easy home charging.

First previewed in April , the MG S5 EV was described by the company as being “built for the modern Malaysian driver,” offering features that are often found in higher segments, now made accessible in a compact EV package.

Three variants, same power, different features and range

All variants are powered by a rear-mounted 125 kW (170 PS) electric motor, delivering 250 Nm to the rear wheels — a rarity in its price bracket. Performance figures are shared between the three, but battery capacity and range differ:

• MG S5 Com:
  49 kWh battery, up to 340 km WLTP-rated range

• MG S5 Com Long Range & MG S5 Lux Long Range :
  62 kWh battery, up to 430 km WLTP-rated range
  150 kW DC fast charging. 
  

Both support 6.6 kW AC charging and come with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality, allowing external devices to draw power from the car’s battery.
