New Mazda Vision concepts unveiled at Japan Mobility Show 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: Mazda has unveiled two vision concepts, the Vision X-Coupe and the Vision X-Compact, at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show. Both of these models embody the brand’s vision for this year's exhibition, i.e., "The Joy of Driving Fuels a Sustainable Tomorrow" for 2035.

    • The Mazda Vision X-Coupe is a sports coupe that underpins the latest iteration of Mazda's KODO-Soul of Motion design language.
    • It measures 5,050 mm in length, 1,995 mm in width, 1,480 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 3,080 mm. 
    • Under its shiny bonnet sits a plug-in hybrid system, combining a two-rotor rotary turbo engine, an electric motor and a battery pack.

    • The system is tuned to deliver a combined output of 510 PS, with a driving range of 160 km in motor-only mode and up to 800 km when combined with the engine. 
    • Notably, the Vision X-Coupe features carbon-neutral fuel derived from microalgae combined with Mazda's proprietary CO2 capture technology and thus contributes to reducing atmospheric CO2.

    Mazda Vision X-Compact: Key highlights

    • The Mazda Vision X‑Compact is a small crossover concept measuring 3,825 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height, and has a 2,515 mm long wheelbase. It hints at the revival of the Mazda 2 nameplate. 
    • Designed to deepen the bond between people and cars, this concept features advanced tech, including a human sensory digital model and empathetic AI, capable of engaging in natural conversation, suggesting destinations and supporting more such functions. 
    • In terms of the design, the city-car concept boasts familiar Mazda styling and striking design elements such as a rounded silhouette, a long bonnet, “eyeliner” cut lines for the headlights and vertical DRLS.

    • Inside, the crossover features a minimalist design language, highlighted by a flat-bottom steering wheel and a glossy red centre console, which lends it a sporty vibe. 
    • Just like the Vision X-Coupe, the Vision X-Compact also uses carbon-neutral fuel derived from microalgae, combined with “Mazda Mobile Carbon Capture” tech.
    • There are no official details yet available on the Mazda Vision X-Compact’s drivetrain.

    All-new Mazda CX-5 on preview

    Alongside the new concepts, Mazda has also showcased the all-new Euro-spec Mazda CX-5 to the general public for the first time ever. The latest model is based on the new E  ARCHITECTURE+, combining new electrical and electronic systems, promising an evolved driving experience. It boasts refined KODO design, a spacious interior, and enhanced Jimba-ittai driving dynamics.
