New Peugeot 408 sedan spied again

Kuala Lumpur: The upcoming Peugeot 408 has been spotted again, this time by Mohd Zailan in Guru, Kedah. Gurun, is of course the manufacturing base for Peugeot's local partner Naza. Although there’s nothing new with these images as we have received similar spy shot images back in May 2015.

First local imaged of the Peugeot 408 in May were of lightly-disguised left-hand drive vehicles, but photos came in two months later of more heavily camouflaged right-hand drive units. Also, this is the first time someone has peered into the cabin. The China market Peugeot 408 has its own, more conventional dash design.

This time, the spy shots provide us a pretty much clear interior view of the vehicle, giving a resemblance of the Malaysian-spec 308 THP with the i-cockpit dash featuring down to the black theme, metallic trim, high-set instrument cluster, a smaller steering wheel and seat design. It's all there, from the push start button and electronic parking brake to the 9.7-inch HD big touchscreen that's central to the car's minimalist dash design.

The test mule shows off sporty blade-style five-spoke wheels as opposed to the Chinese market 408's multi-spoke items, as well as twin pipes neatly integrated into the rear bumper.

The new Peugeot 408 shares PSA’s EMP2 underpinnings with the new 308, the 2014 European Car of the Year that was launched here in April. The proportions are said to be kept as 2,730 mm wheelbase, which is 20 mm longer than before. It should be significantly lighter too if the new 308’s 140 kg savings is anything to go by.

It was revealed to us in March this year that the new 408 could launch sometime in the second half this year. Under the bonnet should sit a direct-injected, turbocharged 1.6 litre THP engine with a six-speed automatic – China also gets 1.2 litre e-THP and 1.8 litre CVVT mills.
