Peugeot to introduce two new EVs - e-408 and e-5008

KUALA LUMPUR: During the recently held “E-Lion Day 2024” event, the French automaker Peugeot made a number of significant announcements with a vision to become the leading brand in the European electric market by 2025.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the upcoming Peugeot EVs?

Peugeot will introduce two EVs in the European market this year: the new e-408 and e-5008.
  • On which platform will the upcoming Peugeot EVs be based?

The upcoming Peugeot EVs will be based on the STLA Medium platform, the first of four global BEV platforms of the Stellantis Group.
  • Owned by Stellantis Group, the brand currently has a vast lineup of EVs in the old continent, including the new Peugeot e-208, e-2008, e-308, e-308 SW, e-3008, e-RIFTER, e-TRAVELLER, e-PARTNER, e-EXPERT, and e-BOXER. The automaker will be expanding this range in 2024 with the introduction of the new e-408 and e-5008.

Both the upcoming EVs will underpin the STLA Medium platform, the first among the four global BEV platforms of the Stellantis Group. This platform utilises a 400-volt electric architecture and has the capacity to accommodate a battery of up to 98 kWh, providing a WLTP-claimed best-in-class range exceeding 700 km.

With the addition of new EVs, Peugeot's EV range will comprise 9 passenger vehicles and 3 light commercial vehicles, the widest ever offered by any European mainstream automotive manufacturer.

Last year, the automaker led the B electric segment in Europe, thanks to the success of the-208 and e-2008. Additionally, it also secured its position as the top seller of zero-emission light commercial vehicles. Notably, Peugeot was recognised as the preferred car brand among the French population in an annual study conducted by the reputable YouGov organisation. This consistent popularity underscores the brand's strong presence in the automotive market.

    Peugeot EVs in Malaysia

Previewed at the Malaysia Auto Show 2023, the all-electric e-2008 is set to launch in Malaysia this year. It will be the first Peugeot EV in the local market that will rival the likes of the Mazda MX-30 and Kia EV6. It will come equipped with a 50-kWh battery pack offering a range of 320 km on the WLTP cycle.

Further, the Stellantis Group is gearing up to establish Malaysia as its new hub for the Asia-Pacific region by 2025. The strategy involves exporting 280,000 vehicles from Malaysia to 20 countries across the region by 2028. Malaysia will also function as Stellantis' headquarters and regional distribution centre for parts in the Asia-Pacific.
