New Volvo EC40 Ultra launched; XC60 and XC90 updated for 2026

KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the all-new EC40 Ultra variant and announced updates for the XC60 and XC90 for the 2026 model year. Let’s take a closer look at each of these models one by one. 

2026 Volvo EC40 Single Motor 

Volvo’s first all-electric crossover SUV, the EC40, is now available in a new single motor variant, named the EC40 Ultra. Priced at RM 248,888, the latest version is RM 40k cheaper than the twin-motor model. Key highlights include -

  • The EV features the brand’s in-house developed rear electric motor, which delivers a maximum power of 238 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds.
  • The motor is tied up with a 70-kWh battery that enables the EV to cruise up to 488 km on a single charge. The battery supports fast charging, offering 10% to 80% SoC in just 26 minutes.
  • The Volvo EC40 is offered in a new Sand Dune exterior shade inspired by the dunes of Sweden’s west coast. This striking shade joins the EV’s existing colour palette, including  Aurora Silver, Onyx Black and Crystal White.
  • The EC40 has a commanding road presence with large wheels, sculpted arches, and impressive ride height. Adding to the modern and sporty look is a sleek, sloping roofline mated to distinctive swooping tail lights.

  • Inside, you get a leather-free interior featuring Charcoal Connect suede textile and Charcoal Microtech trims. There are updated cutting-edge accents on the dashboard and door panels, and Volvo’s next-gen user interface with a 9-inch Google built-in centre display and 12.3-inch driver’s display.

2026 Volvo XC60

Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the facelifted XC60, which has been open for booking since September this year. The upgraded SUV is offered in two variants - 

  • XC60 B5 AWD mild hybrid - RM 328,888
  • XC60 T8 AWD plug-in hybrid - RM 362,888

Upgrades include cosmetic enhancements such as new diagonal mesh front grille, new wheels and new colour options - Forest Lake and Bright Dusk. Also new for the 2026 model year is a new air suspension system, new seats, and a new 11.2-inch head unit running on Google built-in system.

The refreshed XC60 T8 AWD plug-in hybrid offers up to 89 kilometres of pure electric driving and over 450 Nm of torque, offering both performance and efficiency in one package. Meanwhile, the refreshed XC60 B5 mild hybrid presents a convenient and plug-free solution. 

2026 Volvo XC90

Volvo’s flagship family SUV, the XC90, benefits from a new Aurora Silver exterior colour, which complements the existing palette, including Onyx Black, Denim Blue, and Crystal White. 

The 2026 Volvo XC90 is offered in two variants - 

  • XC90 Ultra B5 - RM 418,888 
  • XC90 Ultra T8 - RM 434,888

Both trims are powered by the same 2.0-litre AWD engine paired with an eight-speed Geartronic transmission, generating different levels of output. The B5 produces a maximum power of 249 hp and a peak torque of 350 Nm, while the T8 is good for making 462 hp and 709 Nm. The combined fuel efficiency is as low as 1.8 litres per 100 km.

Standard package includes - a 11.2-inch head unit with next-gen Volvo Cars UX, a 12.3-inch digital driver display, a head-up display, next-generation Pilot Assist with adaptive cruise control, 360-degree camera system, Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity sound system, powered and ventilated front seats with memory and four-way lumbar support, four-zone climate control, and panoramic sunroof with powered sunshade.

Volvo Cars UX

For all its 2026 model year cars worldwide, the automaker has also introduced the new version of its in-car software system, called the Volvo Cars UX (User Experience). This upgraded infotainment interface has a refined vertical layout and features larger buttons and dynamic shortcuts that appear contextually, such as direct access to drive modes at startup or a 360-degree camera button when slowing down to park.
