Ora Good Cat: Variants explained

The Chinese automotive conglomerate GWM has finally made a grand comeback in Malaysia with the launch of the Ora Good Cat. The EV will be followed by 9 new GWM cars to be arrived in the next three years accompanied by the beginning of the CKD operations and opening of unified multi-form stores in capital cities. Let’s put aside the future for a while and look at the present sensation i.e. the Ora Good Cat.

The new Chinese EV looks cute and modern with its quirky combination of retro-inspired and futuristic styling cues. It is packed with a truckload of advanced creature comforts and driving assistance systems. And, the most amazing part is its price point which makes it Malaysia’s cheapest EV. 

GWM offers the Ora Good Cat in two variants - 400 Pro and 500 Ultra, priced at RM 139,800 and RM 169,800, respectively. This means it is more affordable than the Nissan Leaf (RM 175,800) and the Hyundai Kona Electric (RM 156,538 - 208,348). 

Let’s get to know the two variants of the Ora Good Cat in detail -

Ora Good Cat 400 Pro

This is the most affordable Good Cat that costs you less than RM 140k. At this price, you get an electric SUV sized almost similar to the Proton X50. The EV measures 4,235 mm in length, 1,825 mm in width, and 1,596 mm in height, and spans a 2,650 mm long wheelbase. 

The exterior design exudes an adorable vibe with unique cat-eye-shaped headlights mated to circular daytime running lights. The smart headlights come with an automatic light on-off system, a follow-me-home system, and auto high-low beam technology. The rear looks mesmerising with a full-width LED tail light strip and fog lamps. 

Also part of the exterior kit is an active air intake grille, sleek 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable side mirrors with turning lamps, and auto-sensing wipers.

The exterior shades on offer with the base-spec EV are - Coral Blue, Hamilton White, Sun Black, Mars Red, and Hamilton White. The latter two can be paired with a contrasting black roof.

Inside the Ora Good Cat 400 Pro, we can find an all-black interior with a suede leather-wrapped dashboard and an electric power steering wheel. The list of creature comforts includes -

Under the metal skin of the Chinese EV lies an electric motor that delivers 143 hp of maximum power along with a peak torque of 210 Nm. The motor is fed by a 47.8-kWh battery pack offering a range of 400 km (on the NEDC test cycle). In terms of performance, the EV can complete the century sprint in 7.9 seconds.

As for charging, the electric car takes eight hours for a complete juice-up when using a 6.6 kW AC charger. However, a 60 kW DC charger can finish 80% of the task in 46 minutes.

At the top of the Ora Good Cat range sits the 500 Ultra, which retails for RM 169,800. By paying almost RM 30k extra, the customers get the following additional features with the EV -

Powering the top-spec variant is the same 143 hp/210 Nm electric motor coupled with a bigger 63.1-kWh battery pack that promises a cruising range of 500 km. The bigger battery takes 10 hours for a full charge when using the standard AC outlet, whereas the 60 kW DC outlet provides 80% SoC in just one hour.

GWM also offers two exclusive colour tones for the Ora Good Cat 500 Ultra viz. Verdant Green with a White roof and Hazel Wood Beige with a Brown roof.
