Peugeot 508 gets a station wagon makeover

KUALA LUMPUR: The French automaker, Peugeot earlier this year launched the new Peugeot 508 sedan with its exteriors and interiors redesigned. They now have introduced Peugeot 508 SW, a new station wagon body style to the earlier released sedan.

The Peugeot 508 SW shares design philosophy with the sedan, only a longer roof and a hatch at the rear are the new additions. The exterior length of these two models is almost similar. However, the Peugeot 508 SW is 30mm longer than the sedan variant.

The front of the station wagon has the same sharp appearance as the sedan. Similarities on the front include a distinct grill, a bold looking bumper, and vertical LED daytime running lights. The rear styling is, however, a bit different, cause instead of a trunk there is a hatch installed in the Peugeot 508 SW. The station wagon 508 model also sports a stylish Peugeot lettering above the full LED tail-light.

The interior of the Peugeot 508 SW resembles to its sedan counterpart. The station wagon features a Peugeot i-Cockpit cabin with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and signature steering wheel. Other interior features similar to that of the sedan includes - various safety technology such as adaptive cruise control with stop-go function, infrared night-vision, and parking assist among others.

On the mechanical front, it features the same mill that powers the Peugeot 508 sedan. The car comes in two variants, gasoline and diesel. The gasoline version is tuned with a 1.6-litre PureTech mill which produces 177 PS or 222 PS of power and is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Whereas, the diesel trim comes in three different engine tunings, ranging from 1.5- to 2-litre with 128 PS, 158 PS and 177 PS of maximum power output.

All in all, Peugeot Station Wagon model resembles the design and functionality of its sedan counterpart but offers more family appeal. The Peugeot 508 SW will make its public debut at the upcoming 2018 Paris Motor Show before going on sale in January 2019. A plug-in hybrid variant of the car is also slated to be released later in 2019.
