Pininfarina Teorema EV concept debuts with no steering wheel

KUALA LUMPUR: Two years back, Pininfarina made a big splash in the automotive arena with the launch of its own standalone electric hypercar, the Battista. And now, this Italian design house is back on the stage with an all-new creation dubbed as Pininfarina Teorema. This electric car concept has a very interesting design that has been created using virtual reality and augmented reality.

The futuristic Pininfarina Teorema is collectively developed by the automaker’s Italian and Chinese design teams under the leadership of Kevin Rice, Chief Creative Officer at Pininfarina. According to him, “Teorema wants to give people back the pleasure of living in the car, driving, and traveling, without the frustrations of increased congestion and other compromises.”

On the exterior, the hypercar measuring 5,400 mm in length and 1,400 mm in height looks very sleek. It underpins a skateboard EV chassis with the battery placed under the floor, which enables the designers to make maximum use of the car’s interior space. The cabin has a lounge-like space with a very unusual three-row layout of 1+2+2.

The seats are versatile; which means occupants can change their direction and form. They can sit in a face-to-face position, or they can turn their seats into beds, or fold them like desks, or can simply look at the road ahead. These interesting seats are designed by Poltrona Frau.

The cabin also has "a foot-triggering floor,” which guides occupants to their seats. For easy access, the designers ditched the side doors and came up with the rear end opening. Pininfarina says that occupants can enter the car by "simply walking inside of it" as its roof rises upward and forward.

Further, the Pininfarina Teorema car’s dashboard does not carry a conventional steering wheel, rather it has differently-shaped pop-up buttons. This is what makes us think about the car’s fully autonomous driving capabilities.

About the powertrain specs, the Italian coach-builder did not make any statement yet. Well, we hope to get some information soon as the automaker will be showcasing its unusual EV concept in the coming weeks.
