Proton as safe as a Volvo, as efficient as a Hyundai: MITI

In what turns out to be a huge success story for Proton, International Trade and Industry Ministry (MITI) declared that cars from the indigenous manufacturer Proton are as safe as the international name Volvo. Batu Gajah MP V. Sivakumar had questioned the ministry as to whether the products from Proton were ready to step into a huge global market, to this the ministry said that the newly launched drives from Proton sport highly advanced quality, performance and features.

MITI continued the elaboration in this reply saying that flagship drives like Exora, Suprima S, Iriz and Preve sport features like ABS, Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and EBD, all of this with the addition of highly advanced features like 6 airbags, ISOFIX mounts for children seats and “whiplash protection headrests”. Most of the luxury end imported cars feature these products and nothing more.

“Some of the products from Proton are even better in terms to overall comfort of safety of the passengers,” the ministry further added, “and alongside its overall handling and ride, Proton vehicles have elevated the standard of driving in Malaysian roads”

The highlight however was that the recent launches from Proton have actually scored the maximum number of 5 stars in ANCAP( Australian New Car Assessment Programme) and Asean NCAP tests. The ministry further said that “ These sort of numbers have put Proton at par with highly established manufacturers like Toyota, Honda, BMW and Volvo”.
