KUALA LUMPUR: After disrupting Malaysia's BEV market in 2025, Proton is ready to make waves in the PHEV category as well. The national automaker previewed the e.MAS 7 PHEV earlier this month, followed by the opening of its order books with an exciting promo offering an RM 500 booking fee rebate for the first 5,000 customers.

    Proton is all set to launch the e.MAS 7 plug-in hybrid SUV on February 4, 2026. Here’s a quick recap of the things we know so far about the upcoming 2026 Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV -

    • The e.MAS PHEV is offered in three variants - Prime, Premium, and Premium Plus, with prices estimated to range between RM 110k and RM 130k. 
    • Under the skin lies a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine combined with a front-mounted electric motor and an electrified dedicated hybrid transmission (E-DHT).

    • The hybrid setup is capable of generating a combined system output of 262 PS and 262 Nm. 
    • Depending on the variant picked, the PHEV comes equipped with an 18.4 kWh or 29.8 kWh battery pack, offering an all-electric range of 105 km and 170 km, respectively.
    • Dubbed as Malaysia’s first Dual-Powered EV, the Proton e.MAS 7 PHEV promises to deliver a combined driving range of over 1000 km on a full charge and full tank. The average fuel consumption is quoted at 4.0 litres per 100 km.

    • In terms of dimensions, the plug-in hybrid version has a larger footprint as compared to the e.MAS 7 EV, hinting at improved interior space and comfort.
    • Design-wise, it retains the same shape and silhouette as the pure EV, with a few styling changes confirming its unique identity. 
    • Inside, the plug-in hybrid SUV carries the same cabin design and equipment, including a 15.4-inch central display powered by Flyme OS infotainment, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and ADAS functions.
