Proton Saga touches sales milestone; end of the year offer announced

KUALA LUMPUR: Proton introduced the Saga facelift back in August 2019 and in less than 30 months, the car has sold more than 100,000 units. Thus, making it the nation’s best-selling A-segment sedan. A little feather was added to Saga’s cap when it sold 5,666 units last month.

All this looks very impressive, especially after the recurring lockdowns imposed by the government to limit the spread of COVID-19. In the process vehicle production was disrupted for two years, however, the demand for Saga remained strong. At one point, the sedan even received 500 bookings on a daily basis.

Speaking of 2019 updated Saga, the car back then was introduced with several changes both inside and outside. For instance, the exterior benefited from an “Infinite Weave” grille, new front & rear bumper, LED daytime running lights, 15-inch twin 5-spoke alloy wheels, and body-coloured number plate garnish with ‘PROTON’ script.

The cabin, on the other hand, was made up-to-date to customers’ needs and requirements. Included in the list is - new instrument panel, new Android-based 7-inch ‘floating’ touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, and 16GB internal storage. The sedan also gets new LED map lights, a new automatic gear lever, a new sun visor with ticket holder & vanity mirror, high-quality Tricot headlining, and new grab handles.

Powering the Saga is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine pumping out a maximum power of 95 PS at 5,750 rpm along with a peak torque of 120 Nm at 4,000 rpm. Proton offered the Saga facelift in two transmission options - a 5-speed manual for base Standard MT and a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission for the rest variants.
