Proton X70 - Features explained
Did you know that the X70 is Proton’s first SUV ever? And we must say that for a first, Proton did a really good job. Or should we say, Geely did a good job?
The thing is, Proton joined hands with the Chinese company Geely and the X70 is nothing but a rebadged and slightly reworked model of Geely Boyue. Look, we are not complaining, just telling. It’s good that Proton took this step and benefitted from the partnership which gave it its first SUV and hopefully many future products (Proton X50).
Anyway, whether it is the Geely Boyue or Proton X70, the bottom line is, it is a fantastic-looking SUV with great features. And that’s one of the reasons why it’s doing so well here in Malaysia. Let’s see what all great features does it have, shall we?
Proton X70 exterior features
The overall design of the X70 is brilliant and it certainly attracts a lot many eyeballs. However, we would like to tell you about some of its specific features that make all the difference in the world.
LED headlamps with LED DRLs
The X70 has a pair of stylish LED headlamps that not only look great but perform great as well. They also have integrated LED daytime running lights which help the car to be identified in the crowd.
LED rear combination lamps
The LED continues at the rear too as the combination tail lamps are full-LED. There is also a signature LED lighting inside that looks marvellous.
LED front fog lamps
Located on either side at the bottom of the front bumper is a pair of LED fog lamps. They look quite nice and the fact that they are LED gives the car a premium touch.
Rear diffuser with dual exhaust outlets
Proton X70 has a large rear diffuser which gives it a sporty appeal from behind. It also features dual exhaust outlets finished in chrome.
Sharp character lines
There are these sharp character lines on the sides of the X70 that fills the otherwise plain side look. And we also like how these lines tend to wrap around the rear of the car by neatly flushing into the rear combination lamps.
Proton X70 interior features
For a 5-seater, the cabin of the Proton X70 is quite spacious. There is an ample amount of space for people at the front as well as at the back. Also, the seating is pretty comfortable too. You get fabric, leatherette, and Nappa leather upholstery depending on the variant. What else do we have on the inside?
HD LCD instrument panel
The instrument panel is a feature that one look at more than often while driving a car. That’s why the X70 comes with a large 7-in HD LCD panel that sits right behind the leather-wrapped steering wheel. It is a great display and shows a ton of information like a fuel gauge, tachometer, speedometer, engine temp, tyre pressure, and whatnot.
Panoramic sunroof
Making an already spacious cabin feel larger, the panoramic sunroof is a feature that we all would like to have in our cars. It is something that adds premium value to the vehicle.
Voice commands
Proton has added a set of predefined voice commands in the X70. You can say ‘Hi Proton’ and control various functions like AC, navigation, etc.
8-in touch screen monitor
Numerous features of the X70 can be altered and controlled via the 8-in touch screen monitor. It comes as a standard feature across all the Proton X70 variants.
Some of the other interesting interior features are -
- Auto-dimming rearview mirror
- Auto dual-zone AC
- Rear AC vents
- Air purifier system
- 9 speakers
- Various USB and charging ports

- 6 SRS airbags
- Electronic stability control

Proton X70 performance and handling
Proton X70 specs show a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 184 PS of power and 285 Nm of torque. There is a 6-speed automatic transmission with a manual model to keep the wheels turning. The X70 is also available in an AWD or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive mode.
Driving the X70 is a smooth experience. But that doesn’t mean it is sluggish. It is very responsive and adaptive to your driving habits. You can also switch between the three driving modes - Normal, Eco, Sport - as per your mood.
The X70’s chassis and frame have been tuned by MIRA UK to provide superb handling. And its Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, developed by Borg Warner, works wonders to enhance that overall driving experience.
