Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R becomes the fastest FWD running at Nurburgring
KUALA LUMPUR: While we are soon going to get our hands on the all-new Megane R.S, there is something more the car is up to these days. One of its siblings, the R.S Trophy-R has got itself the title of the fastest front-wheel car to ever run at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Earlier to Renault Megane, it was Honda Civic Type R to whom the title belonged.
The new Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R set a record time of 7 minutes 40.100 seconds, which is 3 seconds faster than the Civic Type R. This specific variant of Megane is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine that pumps out a maximum power of 296 hp along with a peak torque of 400 Nm.
Helping the Megane R.S Trophy-R achieve the target is the weight reduction diet the car was put on. Courtesy to which the car reduced 130 kilograms. Though the company hasn’t revealed how the car has achieved the target weight, we think the key contributors are the absence of rear seat and Plexiglas windows. It also comes with a roll cage for both added safety and stiffness.
If you want to get your hands on this fast FWD Megane R.S, then be prepared as Renault is going to offer a few hundred of this hot hatchback. Also, the company will hold the car’s public debut at the Formula One Grand Prix, Monaco on May 24th, 2019.
Reports suggest that Honda is now working on Civic Type-R to regain the title. The Japanese automaker is planning to do so by shedding weight through the use of carbon fibre. Also, Honda is busy developing an upgraded CTR for the car.
