KUALA LUMPUR: First introduced on July 9, 1985, the Proton Saga has been a true icon of Malaysian pride and progress for the past 40 years. To celebrate the Saga’s incredible four-decade journey, Proton has once again teamed up with Mattel Malaysia to introduce the all-new Hot Wheels Proton Saga Special Edition die-cast model.

2025 Hot Wheels Proton Saga Special Edition: Key highlights

• It is a 1:64 die-cast model of the first-generation Saga rolled out in 1985. 
• Released as part of the sedan’s 40th anniversary celebration, the special edition model comes in white, unlike the earlier version which was finished in red.
• However, the White Hot Wheels Saga uses the same blister card design as the red one. It was created by 9-year-old Saw Jane Harn from Penang, who won the Hot Wheels x PROTON Kids Design Competition back in 2023.

• The card commemorates several of Malaysia's natural wonders and accomplishments, featuring the rhinoceros hornbill, the hibiscus (the national bird and flower, respectively), and the National Monument.
• With a price tag of RM 9.90, the 2025 Hot Wheels Proton Saga Special Edition is now up for grabs for Proton’s fans, collectors and children who enjoy Hot Wheels toys.

A brief about the iconic Proton Saga

The Proton Saga has been a symbol of affordable mobility in Malaysia. Since its launch, the automaker has sold over 2 million units of the sedan. This national icon has gone through three generations, featuring continuous upgrades in safety, design, performance, and technology, making it a favourite among Malaysians.

The ongoing third-generation model was launched on September 28, 2016, and has received a few updates since then. It includes -

• Styling updates and a new CVT gearbox in 2019
• New Standard Lite AT variant in 2022
• New four-speed transmission sourced from Aisin in 2023

The Saga is Proton’s best-selling model, accounting for approximately 50% of the brand’s total sales. It is offered in four variants - 1.3L Standard MT, 1.3L Standard AT, 1.3L Premium AT and 1.3L Premium S AT; the price begins at RM 34,800 and goes up to RM 44,800.
