Stellantis begins exporting Malaysia-built Peugeot 408 to Taiwan
KUALA LUMPUR: The world’s leading automaker and mobility provider, Stellantis, has started producing the all-new Peugeot 408 at the Stellantis Gurun plant in Malaysia. This milestone is a key step in the automaker’s regional manufacturing operations.

The Malaysia-built Peugeot 408 model is earmarked for regional export, with Taiwan confirmed as the third market to receive this award-winning fastback, following Thailand in 2024 and Cambodia in 2025. The company is currently evaluating additional markets across the Asia-Pacific region to export the model.
Updated Euro 6 engine with stronger performance
The locally-produced Peugeot 408 features an updated 1.6-litre turbocharged PureTech powertrain that complies with Euro 6 emission standards, which delivers a maximum power of 225 hp, similar to the car’s plug-in hybrid variant. Notably, the version currently on sale in Malaysia is equipped with a Euro 4 engine that makes 218 PS and 300 Nm.
€1.5 million facility upgrade
Stellantis invested €1.5 million (RM 6.99 million) in the Gurun plant for upgrading the manufacturing line, including specialised Research & Development for powertrain calibration and localised parts development.
Transforming Gurun into a regional hub, ready for EV production
Stellantis has ambitious plans to transform the Gurun plant into a regional manufacturing powerhouse with industry-leading quality standards. It aims to achieve full production capacity at the facility, targeting the export of 280,000 vehicles to 20 countries across the Asia-Pacific region by 2028.
The facility will take care of the production of the automaker’s electrified vehicles, including BEVs and MHEVs. It will be spearheaded by the local assembly of the Leapmotor C10 EV with a dedicated €5 million (RM 24 million) investment.

This latest development emphasises our commitment to scaling production outputs in Malaysia while extending the breadth of brands and models within the Stellantis portfolio to meet the diverse needs of the region.”
