Subaru Forester gets a five-star rating from ANCAP

KUALA LUMPUR: Subaru’s latest offering, the Forester has successfully received a five-star rating from the ANCAP (Australasia New Car Assessment Programme). The SUV was first revealed at the 2018 New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) and then introduced in the Australian and New Zealand market in September 2018. Also, the Forester safety rating applies to its entire range sold in the countries mentioned above.

The latest Subaru Forester has scored 36.01 points out of 38 in the category of adult occupant protection. The AEB (Autonomous Emergency Braking) is standard across all the variants and proved “quite good” at low-speed test scenarios.

The SUV scored maximum points in the side impact and oblique pole tests and ANCAP has said that its all critical body regions have “Good” protection. While all of its critical body regions get a compliment, the driver and front passenger’s chest and lower legs get only “Marginal” and “Adequate” results, respectively.

The Subaru Forester also scored 42.62 out of 49 points in the child occupant protection category. It also received maximum points in the impact tests and frontal offset.

Coming to the protection during a crash that involves a pedestrian, the bonnet of the Subaru Forester offers “Adequate” or “Good” head protection, and it provides “Adequate” protection to the legs and pelvis area. The SUV scores 38.51 points out of 48 in the category of vulnerable road user protection. All this is thanks to the AEB system that is effective to detect and react adequately to both cyclists and pedestrians.

While the other markets have already received the Subaru Forester, there is not much information available about when it will hit the Malaysian market. However, it was rumoured to be launched here during the middle of 2019.
