Tesla Model 3 AWD and Performance versions announced

KUALA LUMPUR: Tesla CEO, Elon Musk officially announced the much-awaited all-wheel-drive and performance variants of the Model 3 sedan. These new variants features a faster and more potent dual motor and would go on sale from July 2018.

Officials from company confirmed that the Tesla Model 3 performance version would be rolled out before the new AWD variant. The price range of standard AWD and performance variant starts at RM215,395 and RM311,126 respectively.

Tesla Model 3 AWD gets the look of a standard car whereas, the performance variant benefits from noticeable exterior and interior design changes. The performance version will feature a standard carbon fiber spoiler, black and white interior with a white highlight on the dashboard options along with the 20-inch wheels.

The new dual-motor Model 3 vehicles are well equipped with a front AC induction unit, complements the switched reluctance, and is tuned for the range. It is also outfitted with partial permanent magnet system at the rear which is tuned for performance. Both the front and rear units operate independently. The dual motor variants are only available on the long-range version.

The performance version will go from 0-100 kmph in a breathtaking 3.5 seconds along with a top speed of about 250 kmph. While on a single charge, it will get a range of almost 500 kms while possessing the quick charge capabilities. On the other hand, the standard all-wheel drive version of the Model 3 will go from 0-100 kmph in an eye-popping 4.5 seconds with a range of 500 kms with a top speed of 235 kmph.

Tesla has started taking up the bookings but the Model 3 reservation holders would have to wait a little longer to get the regular AWD variant. Once the wait is over, the auto world would see how exactly one of the most powerful cars in Tesla’s lineup competes against its counterparts.
