Tesla unveils its all-electric pickup truck named Cybertruck

KUALA LUMPUR: The American automobile manufacturer, Tesla has revealed its all-electric pickup truck named Cybertruck. The design of the pickup truck can be expressed as visionary as it looks like a vehicle from a sci-fi movie. The Cybertruck comes with what Tesla states is an impermeable exoskeleton, with each and every element built for exceptional toughness and endurance.

In addition to that, it gets an Ultra-Hard 30X Cold-Rolled structural stainless-steel surface and armoured glass. The carmaker claims that the polymer-layered composite and robust glass will offer enhanced performance and damage tolerance. Moreover, the polymer-layered composite is utilised to grasp and redirect shock forces.

However, the material did not perform exceptionally during the launch event as it got cracked when a metal ball was thrown at it. The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk, claimed that the issue mentioned above would be fixed soon. Moving to the operating range of the pickup, on a single charge, it can run more than 800 km (500 miles). However, the base variants can manage to cover more than 400 km.

It is capable of hauling up to 590 kg (or 3,500 lbs) in a payload and can tow up to 6,350 kg (14,000 lbs). Cybertruck is pretty fast as it can achieve the 0-60 mph (96 km/h) sprint in just 2.9 seconds, which is a similar figure that can be achieved by a supercar. It flaunts self-levelling adjustable air suspension, which allows the pickup to lower and raise the vehicle by 100 mm (four inches) for easy access.

It is offered in three different trims - Single Motor Rear-Wheel Drive, Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, and Tri-Motor All-Wheel Drive. In the US, the pricing starts from US$39,900 (RM166,360), US$49,500 (RM206,400) and US$69,900 (RM291,500) respectively. According to the carmaker, the deliveries will begin in late 2021 and the production of Tri-Motor AWD is expected to start in late 2022.
