Third-generation Volvo S60 launched in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The third-generation Volvo S60 has been launched in Malaysia, and the buyers will be offered only the T8 Twin Engine R-Design trim. The local assembly will start later on, and for the time being, the early units will be completely imported.

The revamped model was first unveiled in June 2018, and rivals against the cars are like the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and Audi A4. The 2020 Volvo S60 price tag reads RM295,888, excluding the insurance charges, and by paying this amount, the buyers will get a factory warranty of a five-year/120,000-km (whichever comes first).

There are a total of five colors being offered by the carmaker, which include Onyx Black, Crystal White, Fusion Red, Birch Light, and Pebble Grey. One thing that enthusiasts must note is S60 R-design has a lengthy service interval of 20,000 km. The all-new S60 shares the same platform if compared to that of an S90, which is the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. However, it has a much sportier and dynamic design.

The design cues that will help you identify it is a Volvo product includes “E 3-style” LED taillights and the signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED DRLs. As mentioned earlier, for the Malaysian market, the car is offered in R-Design trim, which flaunts an aggressive front bumper. The blacked-out fog lamp enclosures and a larger lower intake are incorporated in the front bumper.

The Volvo S60 T8 specs sheet tells that it is powered by a Drive-E 2.0-litre supercharged and turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor, which is capable of churning out 320 hp of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque. The transmission duties are performed by an Aisin-sourced AW TG-81SD eight-speed automatic gearbox. The list of safety features includes six airbags, Driver Alert Control, Pilot Assist, Front & Rear Collision Warning & Mitigation Support, Lane Keeping Aid, City Safety, etc.
