2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350de 4Matic is now available in Thailand

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz introduced the CKD version of V167 GLE 300d 4Matic in the Thai market back in 2019, and now it added a diesel-hybrid trim to the SUV’s lineup, that’s 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350de 4Matic. Just like the GLE 300d, the new model is also a knock-down model and known to be the brand’s first diesel PHEV in the Land of Smiles.

Under the hood, the GLE 350de SUV equips a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel mill and 100 kW electric motor, combinedly churning out a maximum power of 320 PS and a peak torque of 700 Nm. The engine Is paired with a nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox and 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. 

The top speed of the diesel-hybrid SUV is rated at 210 kmph (160 kmph in electric mode), while it can clock the 100 kmph mark in 6.8 seconds. The WLTP-certified fuel consumption of the new GLE 350 de 4Matic is 1.1 litres per 100 km.

Speaking about the battery onboard, the GLE 350de mechanical setup has a 31.2 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that provides up to 99 km of all-electric range on a single charge. It takes around 12 hours to get a full charge with a conventional three-pin power socket, however, a dedicated 7.4 kW wall box charging port reduces this time to four hours only. 

In terms of appearance, the SUV looks elegant with a double louvred radiator grille, LED lights all around, and 20-inch alloy wheels. The elegant presence continues inside the Thai-spec GLE 350de with two 12.3-inch high-resolution digital displays, Nappa leather-wrapped steering wheel, and ambient lighting featuring 64 colours.

On the safety front, Mercedes-Benz has loaded the GLE 350de with the features like Active Brake Assist, Blind-Spot Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, and Adaptive High Beam Assist. Included in the kit is a Parking Package with a 360-degree camera.

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350de 4Matic is now available in the neighbouring country with a starting price of THB 4,699,000 (equals to RM 628,824). In the local market, the SUV comes only in a single trim, the GLE 450 4Matic, priced at RM 584,720.
