2021 Suzuki Jimny: First impression

Finally, the moment for which the Malaysian off-road enthusiasts were waiting has come. The official distributor of Suzuki cars in the country, Naza Eastern Motors, has just launched the all-new Suzuki Jimny 4x4. Just like its sibling Swift Sport, it is also imported from Japan and thus carries a big price tag, which reads RM 168,900 (on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a 50% SST rebate). Take note, the mentioned rebate is valid till the end of December 2021.

First introduced in 1970, the off-roader SUV is currently in its fourth generation and we must say that it feels very promising with just the looks. Don’t you think? Let’s find out more about this new tiny SUV in town in our first impression.

2021 Suzuki Jimny Exterior

In terms of exterior design, the Jimny has a boxy and bold appearance reflecting the image of serious functionality with muscular wheel arches and LED project headlamps with automatic light sensing. There is a distinctive grille on the front with vertical slats paired with a flat square bonnet and angled bumper edges.

Inside, the Jimny features a stylish black interior, which is humble yet handsome, there is little to distract you from driving. The given controls are designed for quick and easy operation. It offers seating space for four passengers; the front passenger seat comes with a walk-in mechanism to access rear seats, while the rear seats are acquitted with a 50:50 split single fold system. The standard kit includes the following interior features:

2021 Suzuki Jimny Off-road kit

Based on the ladder frame chassis, the Suzuki Jimny can handle all types of terrains well, and the credit goes to its strong off-road kit that includes Part-time 4WD with Low Range Transfer Gear, ALLGRIP PRO meant for slippery roads or muddy surfaces, three-link Rigid with Coil Spring Suspension at both the front and rear, Brake LSD traction control, Hill Hold, and Hill Descent Control.

Under the bonnet, the Suzuki Jimny is fitted with a 1.5 litre VVT four-cylinder petrol engine that kicks out a maximum power output of 100 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 130 Nm at 4,000 rpm. It is exclusively paired with a four-speed automatic gearbox. On the performance front, the SUV can hit a top speed of 140 kmph. The Jimny fuel consumption is rated at 6.8 litres per km (14.7 kmpl).
