2021 Toyota Corolla Cross: Same price, other options

Toyota Malaysia earlier this year in March launched the all-new 2021 Corolla Cross in the local market. The SUV is offered in two variant options - the base 1.8G and range-topping 1.8V. They are priced at RM 124,000 and RM 134,000, respectively. Undoubtedly, this one is a capable & reliable car, however, it too has similarly priced competitors by other brands in the segment which a prospective buyer must check out before making an offer.

The above price comparison table shows that while the X70 and HR-V are cheaper than the Corolla Cross, the CX-30 is a bit dearer. To elaborate, Mazda’s base model is almost 10k more expensive than Toyota’s top model. The Seltos, on the other hand, is well within the same price range as the Toyota SUV.

A buyer can not rather should not just make his buying decision solely on the basis of price. Yes, it is an important factor, but it would be wise to see which brand is offering what for the asking amount.

From the above table, it is quite clear that the Proton X70 is packed with the most powerful engine of all the given options. Followed by the CX-30 2.0L, HR-V 1.5L, and HR-V 1.8L models. The least powerful is the CX-80 1.8L trim, however, it packs the maximum torque after the X70.

Looks like the X70 is winning here too, it offers the biggest boot, longest wheelbase, it’s tall, wide, and lengthier as well. Followed by the Corolla Cross, HR-V, Seltos, and CX-30, in terms of boot space, because let’s be fair this aspect would make the most difference in day to day commute.

Conclusion

Well, all the cars on the list are good to go. However, you can make a better decision depending on your driving needs. For power & a bigger boot, go for the Proton SUV, for a feature-loaded car, the Corolla Cross is the one. The Kia and Honda options, on the other hand, are good budget picks in the segment.
