2021 Toyota GR Supra 2.0 now on sale in the UK
KUALA LUMPUR: Almost a year after its launch in other European markets, Toyota’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder GR Supra has finally arrived in the UK. The automaker has started accepting the orders now with deliveries scheduled to start later this month.
According to Toyota, the new engine is more compact as well as 100 kg lighter than the 3.0-litre unit already on sale, and that’s because it has been mounted towards the middle of the car for an ideal 50/50 weight distribution. The automaker also claims that it “improves the car’s inertia characteristics and chassis balance for even sharper handling.”
Talking about the technical specifications, the new unit also has a BMW engine just like the straight-six, which generates 258 PS of maximum power and 400 Nm of peak torque. In terms of performance, the sports car can hit 100 kmph in just 5.2 seconds, before attaining a top speed of 250 kmph. The engine is mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission and can get a WLTP-rated combined fuel consumption figure of 38.7 mpg (13.7 kmpl).
“To achieve agile steering and stable cornering, we worked very hard to reduce the new car’s weight, while aiming for a 50/50 weight balance. This presented us with huge challenges, but we did not want to compromise on our targets,” said Tetsuya Tada, the Supra’s chief engineer.
The Toyota GR Supra 2.0 Pro standard equipment list includes 18-inch wheels, an 8.8-inch multimedia display, a four-speaker 100W audio system, an Alcantara upholstery for the heated seats, and a Toyota Supra Safety+ suite. The said pack bundles a pre-collision safety system, pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure alert with active steering, road sign assist, and automatic high beam.
At the same time, the buyers who opt for exclusive Fuji Speedway Edition get the same equipment along with unique styling, and upholstery tweaks including a metallic white paint finish, red door mirrors, and 19-inch black alloy wheels. Inside, it is decked up in red leather swatches for a contrast with the black Alcantara finishing.
Limited to just 45 units in the UK, the Fuji Speedway Edition is priced at £47,395 (RM 259,700), while for the 2.0 Pro variant, customers need to shell out £45,995 (RM 252,100).
