2022 Toyota Camry launched in Malaysia with a more powerful engine

KUALA LUMPUR: After launching the all-new Corolla Cross Hybrid earlier this year, UMW Toyota now rolled out the new Camry in Malaysia. The refreshed eighth-generation Camry not only gets fabulous looks and advanced features but also a brand new engine coupled with a new transmission to prove its dominance in the segment. 

Available in a single 2.5V variant, the new 2022 Toyota Camry price in Malaysia is RM 199,110 (on-the-road without insurance). It is still imported from Thailand and thus comes with a 50% sales and service tax rebate. 

Toyota Camry Exterior

Design-wise, the new Camry features a bold front fascia with a more prominent central air intake portion and black bars running across the full width of the sedan. Also, part of the front face is Bi-beam LED headlights coupled with follow-me-home function and daytime running lights. On the rear, LED Combination tail lights lend a sophisticated aesthetic to the sedan.

UMW Toyota also offers optional Graphic Welcome lights which lit up when you enter and exit the car.

Further adding an element of dynamic expression to the design is new 8-inch alloy wheels featuring twisted dark spokes.

The 2022 Toyota Camry colour options include - Platinum White Pearl, Silver Metallic, Graphite Metallic, Burning Black, and Red Mica.

Toyota Camry Engine specs

Now, coming to the most significant upgrade available with the new Camry and that’s a new 2.5-litre Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine. The new mill generates a maximum power output of 209 PS at 6,600 rpm and a peak torque of 253 Nm at 5,000 rpm, which is 25 PS and 18 Nm more than the earlier 2AR-FE 2.5-litre unit.

Accompanying the new engine is a new Direct Shift eight-speed automatic gearbox that replaces the 6-speed AT. The new unit offers a more direct driving feel and better efficiency, as per the automaker. The improved fuel efficiency of the sedan is rated at 6.8 litres per 100 km.

Toyota Camry Safety

Moving to safety, where Toyota cars have no match. The automaker has packed the refreshed Camry with the latest Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 ADAS pack. It bundles Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Alert, Lane Tracing Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beam.

 

The safety kit also includes six airbags, Blind-spot Monitor, Intelligent Clearance Sonar, Rear Cross Traffic Auto Brake, Vehicle Stability Control With Traction Control, and Hill-Start Assist Control.
