2025 Chery Omoda 5 facelift introduced in Australia with a new name

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery has introduced the Omoda 5 facelift in the Australian market with significant upgrades and a new name. Now called the Chery C5, the SUV has dropped the Omoda badging and will be sold alongside the Jaecoo brand.

Variants & pricing

The updated Omoda 5/Chery C5 is offered in two variants in the land down under - Urban Ultimate. The base-spec Urban costs AUD 29,990 (RM 82k) while the range-topping Ultimate is priced at AUD 34,990 (RM 96k).

Cosmetic enhancements

Based on Chery’s new “Art in Motion” design philosophy, the C5 features a new diamond-shaped grille and daytime running lights, lending it a more aggressive front look. The sporty red trims presented on the pre-facelift model have also been removed. However, we can still find the fake tailpipes at the rear.   

Enhanced practicality and driving dynamics

Chery has increased the luggage capacity of the C5 SUV to 370 litres, providing ample space for cargo. The vehicle also benefits from a new multi-link rear suspension for an enhanced driving experience.

New DCT gearbox 

The Australian-spec Chery C5 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 147 PS and a peak torque of 230 Nm. The engine is mated to a new six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, replacing the CVT unit.

In terms of features, the SUV comes equipped with the following standard features -

• Advanced driver-assistance systems

The top-spec Ultimate trim exclusively comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers, a powered tailgate, a dual-zone air-conditioning system, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, heated front seats, 360° Around View Monitor, a powered sunroof, a wireless smartphone charger.

Chery confirmed that the electric ‘Omoda E5’ will also be renamed to ‘E5’, with more details set to be revealed soon.

Chery Omoda 5 in Malaysia

Chery offers the pre-facelift Omoda 5 in two variants - C and H, priced at RM 99,800 and RM 118,800, respectively. Both are powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder with 156 hp and 230 Nm, mated to a CVT gearbox driving the front wheels.
