A two-year waiting period for the 2023 Honda Civic Type R!

KUALA LUMPUR: Honda introduced the Civic Type R hot hatch almost 25 years ago and even today the car has a huge fan following. A good proof of it is the latest-gen Civic Type R car that was recently announced for Japan.

As per Japanese media, since the new Civic Type R’s September 2022 arrival announcement, the car has received more than 10,000 orders. All this is given that the 2023 model is 5.2 percent more expensive than the previous generation.

Initially, the automaker announced the delivery to commence by December, however, now due to supply chain issues, Honda has pushed the date by almost 12 months. Given the overwhelming response to the hot hatch, Honda dealers in Japan had to push orders for now. Also, Honda’s official website states that deliveries would take more than half a year.

Overall, it is estimated that Honda Japan would take around two years to complete the Civic Type R’s existing orders.

It is to be noted that the next-gen Civic Type R is not the only Honda car to face supply chain issues. Other models to experience shipment issues by more than half a year include the Vezel e:HEV, Civic e:HEV, and Fit.

A little about the 2023 Honda Civic Type R -

• Like its predecessor, the new Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine making 330 PS at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm from 2,600 to 4,000 rpm, representing a 10 PS and 20 Nm hike over the previous gen model
• It benefits from a redesigned turbocharger, a more efficient exhaust system, increased air intake flow rate, and improved Active Sound Control
• The new hot hatch measures 4590 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1405 mm in height. The wheelbase is 2735 mm that gives enough room for passengers to relax and enjoy the drive

New Honda Civic Type R in Malaysia

Though there is no official word from Honda Malaysia yet, however, given the availability of the last two Civic Type R models, there is a good possibility of the arrival of the new Civic Type R.
