Touted as a game-changer for the French car brand in Malaysia, the all-new 2022 Peugeot 2008 entered the local market a couple of days back. The new Peugeot SUV is locally assembled at the Stellantis plant in Gurun, Kedah, and is offered by the brand’s new distributor Bermaz Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd.

    The new Peugeot 2008 features a compelling exterior design that attracts a younger demographic of drivers and families. It has already received the “Red Dot Award” for its superior product design last year and grabbed the “Car of the Year” title across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

    The stylish SUV has a robust silhouette along with a raised ground clearance. The front end is equipped with a new Peugeot badge, a large chrome radiator grille and iconic three-claw signature LED daytime running light graphics. Complementing the bold front is refreshed rear fascia, which is dominated by LED ‘claw Effect’ tail lights, a twin-chrome exhaust system, and a diffuser finished in gloss black. 

    The side profile looks exceptional with 17-inch Salamanca two-tone alloy wheels wrapped in 215/60 profile tyres.

    Four colour choices

    Peugeot Malaysia offers the new 2008 SUV in four vibrant shades - Orange Fusion. Amazonite Grey, Pearl White, and Nera Black.

    Spacious boot

    With the refreshed Peugeot 2008, you get a spacious boot of 434 litres thanks to a longer body and wheelbase. The former measures 4.30 m while the wheelbase spans around 2.60 m. By folding the rear seat, you can expand the boot space up to 1467 litres.

    Hi-tech cabin with 3D i-cockpit

    Hop inside the new 2008 and you will be welcomed by the Peugeot 3D i-Cockpit, which offers an agile and intuitive driving experience. It features a compact multifunction steering wheel, a large 10-inch 3D instrument cluster, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and gloss black platted 'piano' toggle switches. The infotainment unit is further paired with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and six speakers.

    Other tech goodies available inside the upgraded SUV are keyless entry and engine start, electronic parking brake, single-zone climate control, ambient lighting, a reverse camera, and walk away lock.

    Powerful and efficient Puretech engine

    Peugeot offers the SUV with a number of powertrain options in the global markets, which include pure-electric, diesel, and petrol. However, in the local market, we can only have our hands on the petrol one i.e. tried and tested 1.2 litre PureTech turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Although the engine continues to be the same as the earlier model, it has been retuned to produce 20 hp and 25 Nm more.

    The powerful and efficient PureTech engine now generates a maximum power output of 110 hp at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 230 Nm at 1,750 rpm. It is coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission that powers the front wheels. 

    The rated fuel consumption of the all-new 2022 Peugeot 2008 is 22.22 kmpl (4.5 litres per 100 km), according to NEDC standards.

    Driving comfort

    The refreshed SUV comes with the brand’s legendary handling capabilities. The automaker claims that the latest model offers “top-of-the-range” driving comfort. It is assembled locally and has gone through 200,000 kilometres of quality testing on Malaysian roads to ensure it performs well in the country’s traffic and climate conditions. For different driving preferences, three driving modes are available - Eco, Normal, and Sport.

    Strong safety shield

    In terms of safety, the new 2008 gets six airbags, ABS with EBD and BA, Dynamic Stability Control, Anti-Skid Regulation, hill start assist, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and Isofix. Included in the safety kit are advanced driver-assistance systems such as high beam assist, a blind spot monitor, active lane-keeping assist, driver attention warning, and Active Safety Brake. The latter is a camera-based autonomous emergency braking system.
