All-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class coming soon to Malaysia; gets teased multiple times

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz had big plans for 2021 which seem to continue even as we are all about to welcome the new year. If one heads to Mercedes-Benz Malaysia's Facebook page, they would be greeted by teaser videos and images of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz S-Class. And the latest post is an image showing the car's grille and logo in shadow with bold letters reading COMING SOON.

Any technical/mechanical information? No, Mercedes-Benz has shared no information about the car, however, the videos do give out some key features. For instance, the sedan gets new headlights with Mercedes-Benz's new Digital Lights technology. Also, the range-topping headlight unit uses 1.3 million micro-mirrors that reflect and direct more than 2.6 million individual light beams. Apart from being ultra-fancy, the lighting setup is useful too as the Digital Lights system projects information like warning symbols directly onto the road, it even highlights pedestrians on the road.

On the inside, the new S-Class is said to benefit from a new design that is inspired by lavish yachts. Also, visible in one of the videos is a portrait-oriented 12.8-inch touchscreen display running on the automaker's latest MBUX software (with improved processing speed, new design interface, new gesture controls, biometric authentication system).

As for the sedan’s under the hood configuration, though we are not sure about its local offering at the global level, it is offered in two diesel and two petrol options. The Malaysia-spec S-Class is expected to be powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged mill making 367 hp and 500 Nm on the S 450 and 435 hp and 520 Nm on the S 500.

Both the S 450 and S 500 come standard with a 4Matic all-wheel-drive system and are paired 2ith an 8-speed automatic gearbox. While the former complete the century sprint in 5.1 seconds, the latter takes 4.9 seconds.

Another interesting highlight is the inclusion of the E-Active Body Control active suspension system that scans the road ahead via camera and then adjusts the suspension accordingly. Also, the rear-wheel steering system can turn the rear wheel by a whopping ten degrees.
