All-new MG4 EV breaks cover in China; launch soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The MG4 enjoys strong demand in the electric hatchback segment globally; however, its performance in the domestic market has not been as impressive. As a result, the automaker has introduced an upgraded model to boost its appeal.

The ongoing MG4 EV price in Malaysia starts from RM 103,999 and goes up to RM 158,999.MG has unveiled the latest version in China, with the launch set to be held on September 5, 2025. The latest model is set to attract the eco-conscious buyers with its new styling, advanced technology, and electrifying performance.

2026 MG4: What’s new
- The new MG4 is 4,395 mm long, 1,842 mm wide, and 1,551 mm tall, and spans a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Compared to the predecessor, it is 108 mm longer, 6 mm wider, and 35 mm taller and has a 45 mm extended wheelbase.
- Based on the same Nebula EV platform, the hatchback is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor generating a power output of 163 PS. Feeding the motors is a lithium iron phosphate battery pack supplied by Rept Battery Energy.
- While MG has yet to disclose the battery capacity and range figures, the reports suggest that the EV may get a semi-solid-state battery.
- The new MG4 benefits from a more subtle design language with a closed front grille, arrow-style tail lights, and a full-width rear light bar.

- Wrapped in a light purple exterior colour, the vehicle rides on 17-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. It adopts traditional doorknobs, which is quite the opposite of the flush handles available in modern EVs.
- MG has also equipped the latest model with a new cockpit system co-developed with Oppo. With the new in-car interface, the EV now supports smartphone mirroring, voice commands, and gesture-based navigation.
MG4 EV in Malaysia
SAIC Motor Malaysia introduced the MG4 in March 2024 in four different variants - Standard, Lux, Lux Extended, and XPOWER, priced between RM 103,999 and RM 158,999.
The base-spec variant is powered by a 170 PS/250 Nm rear motor and a 51 kWh LFP battery, offering a range of 350 km (on the WLTP cycle). The MG4 Lux equips a 203 PS motor and a 64 kWh NMC battery, while the Lux Extended Range offers 245 PS and a 77 kWh battery for 520 km of range. The top-spec XPOWER trim, with dual motors generates 435 PS and 600 Nm, comes with a 64 kWh battery and offers a 385 km range.
The electric hatchback comes with a 7-year/150,000 km mileage vehicle warranty and an 8-year/180,000 km battery warranty.
