Audi Q5 L debuts at the ongoing Beijing International Automotive Exhibition

KUALA LUMPUR: Audi will be soon adding a new version to the updated Q5 SUV lineup. The company has now unveiled the longer wheelbase version of the Q5 at the ongoing 2018 Beijing International Automotive Exhibition.

Dubbed as the Audi Q5 L, the long wheelbase model comes with a luxurious space, especially for the rear passengers and joins the other long wheelbase versions like the A4 L, A6 L, and the A8 L.

When it comes to the exterior designing, the Audi Q5 L has the same traits as the standard version. The front portion continues to get the same SingleFrame hexagonal grille along with matrix LED headlamps. The tail lights get LED units on them. The available wheel sizes are between 18-20 inches.

Though it has the same design as the standard Audi Q5, the longer wheelbase is more-or-less evident. And with this, one can also be sure that the new version is slightly longer than the standard. The length has increased by 88 mm and the wheelbase is 2,907 mm while having a length of 4,770 mm. This, of course, amounts to an increased rear legroom, 110 mm precisely. However, the cargo space is the same as standard, being 640 litres in normal condition and 1,550 litres with the rear seat folded.

Inside the new Audi Q5 L, there is an 8.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system which is inbuilt with smartphone interface connectivity and MMI navigation. In addition to this, there is a large 12.3-inch virtual cockpit driver’s console, gesture control, and voice control. A 3-zone automatic climate control is also included in the feature list.

Under the hood, the Audi Q5 L, which has already made its public debut, gets the same 2.0-litre TFSI engine as the standard Q5, tuned in two different ways, one making 190 bhp and the other making 252 bhp and is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch S-Tronic transmission. However, the Malaysian unit of the Q5 is powered by the same 2.0-litre TFSI but makes 225 bhp power and 350 Nm torque and is mated to an 8-speed Tiptronic gearbox.

Whether the Audi Q5 L will be brought to Malaysia is still a topic of debate. The German company presently offers a long-wheelbase version of the A8 only.
