BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe gets a significant upgrade in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Introduced in October 2020, the BMW 218i Gran Coupé received a refresh in the form of a full-featured BMW Live Cockpit Professional. The new system gets a bigger 10.25-inch central informational display replacing the old 8.8-inch and a bigger 10.25-inch digital instrument panel in place of the older analogue meter cluster measuring 5.1-inch.

The hi-tech unit also comes with BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, which gets activated with a “Hey BMW!” voice or any other assigned personalised words. This intelligent voice-activated command system allows the driver to easily control all the vehicle settings, call settings, media, and navigation while driving. If we talk about the audio system, the new unit continues with the six speakers.

Considered as an answer to the recently launched Mercedes-Benz A-Class CKD featuring an advanced MBUX head unit, this new display upgrade increased the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe price by RM 5,000. This means the luxury coupe is now retailed for RM 204,177 (on-the-road without insurance). Included in the price are sales and service tax rebates and the standard warranty of two years. With a five-year extended warranty and service package, the price goes up to RM 216,367. 

Apart from the new infotainment unit, the BMW 218i Gran Coupe specs sheet remains the same with LED headlights and tail lights, BMW M Aerodynamics package, M Sport 18-inch wheels, Black leather Dakota upholstery, BMW Digital Key, two-zone climate control, advanced Driving Assistant suite, Parking Assistant with Reversing Assistant, and M Sport suspension.

Under the hood, the car is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo three-cyl engine capable of delivering a maximum power output of 140 PS and a peak torque of 220 Nm. The engine is paired with a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission that sends power to the car’s front wheels. On the performance, the luxury coupe runs from zero to 100 kmph in 8.7 seconds before achieving a top speed of 213 kmph.
