BMW 218 Gran Coupé M Sport launched in Malaysia, priced from RM 192,800: locally assembled, 50 units first

KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia has introduced the new locally assembled BMW 218 Gran Coupé M Sport, unveiled at the BMW Clubhouse event at Factory 19 PJ. It succeeds the BMW 218 Gran Coupé Sport launched in June 2025 and is priced from RM 192,800, with the first allocation limited to 50 units.

The M Sport variant keeps the same powertrain as the Sport but adds the M Sport package, Adaptive M Suspension, upgraded driver assistance, and several equipment additions.

Same engine, now with paddle shifters

Power comes from the same 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine as the 218 Gran Coupé Sport, running the Miller cycle and producing 115 kW (156 hp) and 230 Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch Steptronic transmission, which now gains paddle shifters. The 0-100 km/h time is 8.6 seconds, and the top speed is 230 km/h.

The main mechanical change is the Adaptive M Suspension, exclusive to the M Sport variant. The chassis uses a single-joint MacPherson strut front and three-link rear axle, with directly controlled wheel slip limitation (ARB) for traction management.

What the M Sport adds outside

The front carries the BMW Kidney Iconic Glow grille with vertical and diagonal bars, Adaptive LED headlights with vertical daytime running lights, and anti-glare high-beam with cornering function. The M Sport package adds Individual High-Gloss Shadowline trim with extended content, 18-inch M light alloy wheels in Y-spoke Style 975M Bicolour, and an M Sport rear diffuser. The Hofmeister kink carries an embossed "2", and vertical LED taillights sit at the rear. Length is 4.55 metres with an unchanged wheelbase from its predecessor.

Interior and new equipment

The cabin centres on the BMW Curved Display, combining a 10.25-inch instrument cluster and 10.7-inch control display, now running BMW Live Cockpit Professional with Operating System 9 and QuickSelect. The M Sport package brings an M leather steering wheel, Illuminated Aluminium Graphite trim, backlit trim strips in M colours, and stitching in M colours.

New to the M Sport variant are a Head-Up Display, M Anthracite headliner, and a 12-speaker, 205-watt Harman Kardon HiFi system. Front sport seats get electric adjustment with memory, upholstery is Veganza perforated, and Comfort Access, wireless charging and automatic air conditioning are standard. Boot space is 430 litres.

Connectivity features include the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant with Amazon Alexa integration, BMW Digital Premium for in-car streaming and gaming, Personal eSIM, Remote Software Upgrades, and BMW Digital Key Plus.

Driver assistance gets a real upgrade

This is one of the bigger changes over the Sport variant. Driving Assistant Plus replaces the standard Driving Assistant, adding Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Steering and Lane Control Assistant. The existing Driving Assistant features carry over, including emergency braking with pedestrian warning, Exit Warning, rear crossing traffic warning with brake intervention, and Speed Limit Info.

Parking Assistant Plus is also exclusive to the M Sport, adding Park Assist Professional, Surround View, Front Panorama View, Remote 3D View, BMW Drive Recorder and Anti-theft Recorder on top of the standard Reversing Assistant that can retrace up to 50 metres.

Colours, warranty and market position in Malaysia

Four exterior colours are offered: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Brooklyn Grey, and Portimao Blue. Interior upholstery is Veganza Perforated in Black across all colours, with Coral Red available exclusively with Black Sapphire.

Warranty coverage is a 4-year unlimited mileage warranty with 4 years or 80,000 km of service coverage under the BMW Service & Repair Inclusive programme, shorter than the 5-year package offered on other new BMW Malaysia models, plus 24/7 roadside assistance.
