BMW 740Le xDrive Pure Excellence: What we like

The BMW 7 Series sedan can easily impress anyone at the first look with its striking exterior. And, when someone drives it, its exceptional performance, comfort, and innovative tech systems blow out the mind. Everything, right from the exterior to the interior screams luxury and performance. In Malaysia, the sedan comes in 740Le xDrive trim with two design options - Pure Excellence and M Sport. In this article, we are going to list out the points we like about the BMW 740Le xDrive Pure Excellence version, which is priced at RM 544,352 (with the ongoing SST rebate). So, let’s get started.

Commanding exterior 

The 740Le xDrive Pure Excellence marks its unique identity with a gigantic kidney grille on the front featuring slats in Chrome high-gloss, teamed up with ultra-modern BMW Laserlight headlamps. The bonnet features crip contours while the bumper has well-integrated air-intake vents/air curtains. On the sides, there are sharp edges and 19-inch double-spoke alloy wheels with mixed profile tyres. 

At the rear end lies the ultra-thin LED light strip placed just under the chrome bar which connects the 3-D design all-LED tail lamps of the vehicle. The bold-looking and neatly sculpted bumper and chrome-tipped dual exhaust outlets further elevate the sedan’s rear styling quotient. A Panorama glass roof Sky Lounge is also a part of the kit.

The car has a limousine-like presence with a total length of 5238 mm and a long wheelbase that spans 3,210 mm.

The BMW 740Le xDrive Pure Excellence colour palette has four options - Black Sapphire metallic, Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect, Mineral White metallic, and Bernina Grey Amber effect. 

Elegant and comfy interior

The Pure Excellence Design package lends the car an exceptional presence with exclusive Nappa leather upholstery (Cognac or Black) and fine-wood Poplar Grain Grey interior trimming. The instrument panel and upper section of the door rails (front and rear) are also covered with Nappa leather, while the stylish sports steering wheel gets a fine leather finish. The Alcantara headliner further complements the outstanding interior design.

Included in the list of creature comforts are electrically adjustable comfort seats and steering column, heat protection, and sun protection glazing, lumbar support for the driver and front passenger, massage function for rear-seat passengers, automatic four-zone control air-conditioning, soft-close function for doors, start/stop button, a mobile phone tray for wireless charging, ambient mood lighting, head-up display, 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and rear-seat entertainment touchscreen displays.

Advanced technology

The luxury sedan has a Live Cockpit Professional system, which consists of two displays - a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.25-inch touchscreen display. The latter comes with BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant, Gesture Control, and an iDrive infotainment system. The setup is mated to BMW Navigation Professional system and BMW Connected Package Professional, which offers services like Intelligent Emergency Call, Remote Services, Teleservices, Concierge Services, and Apple CarPlay.

Efficient powertrain

Being a plug-in hybrid model, the BMW 740Le xDrive Pure Excellence is equipped with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor mated to a 12-kWh battery pack. The 3.0-litre straight-six petrol engine alone churns out a maximum power output of 282 hp along with a peak torque of 450 Nm, while the electric motor takes the combined output to 394 hp and 600 Nm. An 8-speed Steptronic gearbox sends drive to all four corners of the vehicle through the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. 

With this stellar performance, the 7 Series hits the century sprint in just 5.1 seconds and the fun continues till the electronic control kicks in at 250 kmph. The combined fuel consumption of the sedan is rated at 2.8 litres per 100 km, and the combined carbon emission stands at 65 grams per km.

Pioneering driver-assistance systems

In terms of driver assistance, the BMW 740Le xDrive Pure Excellence comes with a Driving Assistant Professional suite. The pack has the following features: 

• Active cruise control with Stop&Go function
• Lane Departure Warning
• Lane Change Warning
• Lane Keeping Assistant with active side collision protection
• Steering and lane control assistant
• Lane Change Assistant
• Front collision warning with brake intervention
• Crossing traffic warning front and rear

• Crossroads warning with city braking function

In addition, Parking Assistant Plus with Reversing Assist and Surround-view camera are also there to assist the driver.
