Chery Tiggo 7 becomes only Chinese SUV with four global five-star safety ratings
KUALA LUMPUR: The Chery Tiggo 7 is starting to build a serious case for itself as one of the most safety-validated SUVs in its class, and not just within China.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
What safety ratings does the Chery Tiggo 7 have?
The Chery Tiggo 7 has received five-star safety ratings from Euro NCAP, ANCAP, ASEAN NCAP and C-NCAP, making it the only Chinese-brand SUV to achieve top scores across all four safety authorities. What was the Tiggo 7’s ASEAN NCAP score?
The Tiggo 7 scored 94.68 points, the highest score recorded by ASEAN NCAP since the organisation was established in 2011.What variants of the Tiggo 7 are available in Malaysia?
In Malaysia, the Tiggo 7 is available as the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo 7 Pro.The Tiggo 7 is now the only Chinese-brand vehicle to have secured five-star crash safety ratings from all four major automotive safety bodies, Euro NCAP, ANCAP, ASEAN NCAP and C-NCAP.

That gives it a fairly rare distinction in the segment, especially at a time when Chinese SUVs are still facing plenty of scrutiny in some markets over long-term quality, safety and consistency.
The biggest headline came at the end of 2025, when the Tiggo 7 earned a five-star ASEAN NCAP rating with a score of 94.68 points, which Chery says is the highest score recorded by the organisation since it was established in 2011.
It also posted full marks in both Adult Occupant Protection and Safety Assist, making it the only plug-in hybrid model so far to achieve a double perfect score in those two categories.
That result is especially relevant in Southeast Asia, where traffic conditions are rarely straightforward. Roads here are often filled with motorcycles weaving through lanes, unpredictable junction movements and tight urban traffic.

These systems automatically come into play at speeds above 15 km/h. Beneath that, the SUV also leans on a fairly serious passive safety setup. Its body structure uses more than 61% high-strength steel, while the front section includes an aluminium anti-collision beam aimed at helping preserve cabin integrity in a major impact.
In Malaysia, the Tiggo 7 is currently sold in two versions, the Tiggo 7 PHEV and the Tiggo 7 Pro.
Photo by Adam AubreyIts ASEAN NCAP result was not a one-off either. In October 2025, the Tiggo 7 also received a five-star Euro NCAP rating, with solid results across the main test categories, including Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection and Safety Assist.
Two months later, ANCAP published results for the Australia-spec Tiggo 7 CSH, which also secured a five-star score. Given that Euro NCAP and ANCAP use closely aligned test procedures, getting both results within a short span adds weight to Chery’s claim that the Tiggo 7 has been engineered to meet the same high standards across multiple regions, not just tuned to pass one specific market’s test.
Chery Malaysia says the Tiggo 7’s body uses a cage-type energy-absorbing structure, with high-strength steel making up more than 60% of the vehicle. Critical sections are further reinforced with 1,500 MPa hot-formed steel, and eight airbags are fitted as standard across the range.

Automatic Emergency Braking is included, allowing the SUV to detect vehicles and pedestrians ahead and step in with braking force if required.
There is also a 540-degree transparent chassis view system, which gives the driver a clearer look around the car and helps reduce blind spots when manoeuvring in tight spaces.
Taken together, the Tiggo 7’s crash-test performance across China, Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia gives Chery a useful talking point, especially in markets where buyers still want reassurance before committing to a newer Chinese-brand SUV.
Safety claims are easy to make, but four separate five-star ratings from four separate authorities is harder to dismiss.
Photo from CheryThe safety milestone also comes as Chery continues pushing ahead globally. The company says it delivered 161,000 vehicles in February 2026, up 41.5% year-on-year, despite ongoing changes across the global automotive industry and continued pressure from electrification, regulation shifts and price competition.
Exports remain a major part of that momentum. Chery says its overseas shipments have stayed above 100,000 units a month for 10 straight months.
Globally, the group says it has now built up a user base of more than 18.89 million, including over 6.09 million customers outside China. That also makes Chery the first Chinese carmaker to pass the six-million overseas-user mark.
For Chery, that gives the Tiggo 7 story a broader backdrop. This is not just about one SUV doing well in a lab test. It is part of a wider push by the company to show that its newer global models can compete on safety, technology and engineering credibility, while the brand continues expanding well beyond its home market.
