Denza Z9S electric sedan breaks cover in China, here’s what we know so far

KUALA LUMPUR: BYD’s premium sub-brand, Denza, has officially revealed a new premium electric sedan in China, called the Z9S, which sits below the Z9 GT in the brand’s lineup.

Denza Z9S: What we know so far?

Dimensions

Touted as a “technology luxury intelligent sedan,” the Denza Z9S measures 5,090 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width, and 1,490 mm in height, and spans a wheelbase of 3,025 mm. These dimensions make it slightly smaller and shorter than the Z9 GT, which is 5,180 mm long and 1,500 mm tall.

Exterior

Sprayed with a striking Dawn Purple exterior colour, the EV features a sleek fastback design with a closed-off front grille and new dual star-shaped headlights. Other key highlights include updated door handles, revised tail lights, large wheels with yellow brake callipers and a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor.

Interior

Alongside shorter dimensions and a revised exterior, the latest EV sets itself apart with a refreshed interior equipped with a new multi-functional steering wheel, cleaner central console, a triple-screen dashboard layout, and redesigned seats with new headrests.

One of the key notable features is the availability of physical buttons for key vehicle functions like AC controls, drive mode selection, and volume controls. Yes, Denza has resisted the market trend of moving every function onto the touchscreen.   

Drivetrain, range and charging 

According to CarNewsChina, the Denza Z9S is expected to come in different drivetrain configurations, including 

• Single-motor setup: Two different rear-wheel drive motor setups, generating 429 hp and 496 hp, both paired with a 102.326 kWh battery pack, offering a range of up to 920 km (on the CLTC cycle).
• Tri-motor setup: Three electric motor AWD setup, generating a combined output of 1,194 hp, mated to the same 102.326 kWh battery, delivering a CLTC range of 780 km.

As for charging, the “Flash Charging” badge on the EV’s rear end confirms the availability of the second-gen Blade Battery flash-charging system, which can replenish 10 to 70% of the battery in just five minutes, and 10 to 97% in nine minutes. 

Safety 

The Denza Z9S will come equipped with BYD’s DiPilot 300 LiDAR-assisted driving system (known as God’s Eye B). This advanced tech brings on board features like automatic parking assistance, remote control parking, automatic emergency braking, emergency lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring.

Denza has yet to disclose the launch timeline, pricing, and global rollout plans for the new sedan.
