FK8 Honda Civic Type R life-sized version unveiled by LEGO

KUALA LUMPUR: LEGO unveils FK8 Honda Civic Type R’s life-sized version, just before the upcoming Lego Masters show. A team of passionate Australian Lego builders headed along with the team head Ryan McNaught built the car. Previously, LEGO also made a full-size, drivable McLaren Senna.

It took more than 1,300 hours, and over 320,000 Lego bricks were used to build the full-size recreation of Honda Civic Type R. All the nine members of the team assembled each block by hand. The work was not easy owing to the car’s aerodynamic elements and complicated surfaces.

The structure of FK8 Honda Civic Type R’s life-sized version is based on a steel frame. , and all the stock standard pieces are glued together. An iPad gives the car ‘life’ by helping turn on the headlights, fog lights, DRLs, brake, hazard lights, and reversing lights.

As mentioned earlier, the team has worked hard to build the car from tiny bricks. However, the biggest challenge they faced was building the window wipers, thanks to its fragility. Also, making the rear spoiler was one of the hectic tasks as its extended structure had to be retained alongside its attachment with the car.

The team leader Ryan McNaught said, “We’ve loved the challenge of this project. The car is shaped with a considerable amount of curved lines, making it a tough but interesting build. From the working lights and indicators to intricate Lego Honda logos, the detail on the model has been a fun one for us to work on.”

To recall, the Malaysian-spec drivable FK8 Honda Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged VTEC engine, which is capable to produce a maximum power of 310 PS at 6,500 rpm while the peak torque comes at 400 Nm within a rev range of 2,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm.
