Get ready for all-new BMW iX3, unveiling on 14th July
KUALA LUMPUR: The Bavarian carmaker has announced the official premiere date of its all-new electric car - the iX3. The first pure electric crossover production began last month in China, where it will be introduced first under the iNext sub-brand. The car is built at the BMW Brilliance Automotive under a joint venture in Dadong, China. The said plant has been making the iX3 prototypes for a while now, and it rolled out 200th unit recently. Within four weeks of time, these prototypes have undergone 340 hours of testing (including 7700 km of test drive).
BMW will host a live stream event on 14th July, at 10 a.m. CEST in Munich, where it will present the iX3 to the world. The company shared the reveal information via a teaser poster giving a glimpse of the crossover. The automaker last month released a few images that showed off the car.
As for the upcoming car’s exterior design, it looks a lot like the ongoing iX3. Though not much is known, we are sure about a revised bumper and blue accents. Also, it will be the first to get the 5th-gen BMW eDrive technology. The drive unit of the new iX3 consists of an electric powertrain, power electronics, and central housing integrated transmission unit. All this reduces the installation space and mass of drive relative to output. In addition, it offers additional flexibility for installing new electric components in various body styles. The automaker further claims that the new engine does not require the rear earth materials. The high voltage and modular powertrain of the pure-electric crossover has a claimed range of 440 km. The same under the hood confirmation will make its way in the upcoming BMW i4 and iNext SUV.
