GWM WEY G9 bags 800 bookings in first week of launch

KUALA LUMPUR: The newly launched GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV has been receiving much love and attention from Malaysians. Within its first week of arrival, the MPV has bagged over 800 bookings, reflecting its strong demand and growing confidence in intelligent hybrid mobility.

Touted as Malaysia’s first locally assembled luxury New Energy MPV, the GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV was launched on 29 January at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur. The event was officiated by Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). 

This milestone represents a strategic step in positioning Malaysia as a regional production and export hub for higher-value New Energy vehicles within ASEAN.

“The introduction of the WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV is a bold step forward by GWM, as it looks to make first-class mobility more accessible. Prioritising comfort, safety, and advanced mobility for Malaysian families, GWM’s aspirations align perfectly with our national goal of inclusive and balanced economic growth, said Yang Berhormat Tuan Sim Tze Tzin, while emphasizing strategic importance of the vehicle to Malaysia’s automotive future.

GWM WEY G9 Hi4 PHEV: Key highlights 

• Designed for both families and professionals, the WEY G9 offers a great combination of hybrid performance, efficiency, safety and top-notch comfort in a locally assembled package. 
• It is powered by GWM’s Hi4 intelligent hybrid AWD system, combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with dual electric motors for a total system output of 442 PS and 642 Nm.
• Equipped with a 44.2 kWh battery, the vehicle offers up to 170 km of all-electric and over 1,000 km combined driving range, combining long-distance capability with quiet daily efficiency. 
• It supports both AC and DC fast charging, with the latter juicing up the battery from 30 to 80% in just 26 minutes.

• Key features include - Intelligent LED headlights, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.6-inch infotainment unit, head-up display, wireless charging pad, 3-zone climate control with rear controls, 21-speaker Amor sound system, power-adjustable seats, 12.5-litre built-in refrigerator, 64-colour ambient lighting system and ADAS systems.
• Competitively positioned in Malaysia’s luxury MPV segment, the GWM WEY G9 is priced at RM 269,800.
