Hyundai Elantra AD facelift spotted in Malaysia; suggests impending local launch

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai Elantra AD facelift has been spotted in Malaysia. This 'intense' looking car was launched internationally in August last year. Being trialled on Malaysian roads suggests it might arrive in the country soon. The heavily redesigned vehicle is going to arrive in a shorter time frame than expected.

At the time of its international debut, the Director of Product Planning at Hyundai Motor America, Scott Margason explained Elantra AD heavy design saying, “Refinements to both the interior and exterior were initiated on the 2019 Elantra to maintain its emotional design character. The hood, front fenders, fascia, grille and headlights as well as the rear fascia, trunk and taillights each have been redesigned to convey a catchy and confident image. On the rear, the license plate has been relocated to the lower fascia to further enhance the new body sculpture.”

As per the limited details available about the outfit, the Hyundai Elantra AD facelift (spotted in Malaysia) flaunts the company’s latest Cascading grille which is filled with rectangular vents. The grille houses the brand’s logo at the top followed by the number plate. Instead of a quadrilateral design, the LED headlights are now triangular and intrudes into the boundary of the grille. Moreover, the fog lamps also get a triangular outfit and are placed underneath.

Coming to the rear, it features reshaped LED taillights with sharp light strips. The taillights are partitioned between the boot lid, and its other part extends a bit into the side profiles.

However, nothing has been revealed about its interior, and it is expected to get some minor tweaks. The climate controls and instrument face might get some changes.

At the engine front, the vehicle could be equipped with the Executive’s 2.0-litre Nu naturally-aspirated four-cylinder powerhouse which churns out a maximum power of 152 PS at 6,200 rpm and a peak torque of 192 Nm at 4,000 rpm.
